After the Celtics won Game 3, the series is now 2-1 in favor of Miami. But the Celtics have gotten Gordon Hayward back and have some momentum. Can they come back and win this series?
The Celtics should be up 3-0 in this series, but they haven’t been able to get the first two wins. But they did win Game 3 to make the series remain competitive. But can the Celtics actually win?
The short answer is yes, but why? I think that the Celtics can’t be stopped offensively. The Celtics just have too many weapons and the Heat don’t have size all of their lineup to cover it all. Tatum, Brown, and Walker all played great in Game 3 and there are no signs of them slowing down. But the real key for the Celtics is their defense.
The Celtics offense has been red hot in this series and is the main reason why they have been getting these double-digit lead. But the reason that the Celtics have lost in this series is because at times they cannot stop the Heat. They allowed 37 points in the 3rd quarter of Game 2 and that was the reason they lost. They allowed 35 points in the 4th quarter of Game 1, and they lost in OT. But if Boston can hold Miami down for most of the game like they did in Game 3, they will be almost impossible to beat.
Another key for the Celtics are Gordon Hayward and Marcus Smart. Tatum, Brown, and Walker are all great scorers who will put pressure on a defense at all times. But Smart and Hayward could either be bad or good, and the Celtics will need these guys as an added kick.
Hayward didn’t do much on the stat sheet in Game 3, but you could see his impact. Hayward is still getting back into the fit of things with Boston, but he will be crucial. His scoring will need to carry a otherwise weak Boston bench. A problem for the Celtics has been their depth and with Hayward back it will help them greatly. Hopefully the Celtics can get him going in Game 4.
Another wild-card is Marcus Smart. Now with Smart we know we’re getting energy and effort, which always help. But I think that if his offense is good, the Celtics can really give the Heat problems. The Heat ran a lot of zone during Game 3, and this leads to open shots. Once Smart gets these kick-out passes, he is a great swing passer to the open guy. He is great at finding the best shot. But if Smart is open, he should shoot it. Smart has been red-hot from 3 in the playoffs and if he gets going, the Heat can’t really do much. You already have 3 great isolation scorers with Tatum, Brown, and Walker, and if Smart starts to hit his 3’s, then it’s game over.
So I think that the Celtics are the only reason that they have losses in this series. Boston has letdowns and the Heat take advantage. But the Heat can’t stop Boston on offense. With Hayward providing scoring off the bench and Smart hitting some catch-and-shoot 3’s, the Heat will not be able to handle the Celtics on offense. On defense, the Celtics need to contain the Heat. Mainly Butler and Dragic because they really give the Celtics fits. But I definitely think that the have the tools to comeback and win this series, lets see if they can do it!
