Ranking The Top 10 SG’s In The NBA
Today, we will be ranking the 10 best SG’s in the NBA. This is an opinion, and you may agree or disagree. In the comments below, say what you would change about this list.
#10- Buddy Hield: Comment Below
Buddy Hield is one of the up-coming SG’s in the NBA. He is turning into one of the better scoring guards in our league. He averaged 20.7 points and 5.0 rebounds. He shot 45.8% from the field, 42.7% from 3, and 88.6% from the line. He needs to improve upon his assists (2.5), and other than that, he shoots the ball really well, rebounds well for a guard, and he just needs to grow some more. If Hield continues to improve at the rate that he is at, then he could turn into the Kings #1 piece during their rebuild and trips back into the playoffs.
#9- Jaylen Brown: Comment Below
Jaylen Brown is one of the better 2-way guards in the NBA, and he has the potential to become a top-5 SG in the NBA. Last season, Brown averaged 13.0 points and 4.2 assists. He shot 46.6% from the field, 34.4% from 3 and 65.8% from the line. He needs to improve his assists (1.4), and his 3 and free throw shooting overall. This season without Kyrie Irving, the Celtics might get back to ball movement, meaning more chances for Brown, like in the 2018 playoffs. This will be a make or break year for Brown as he needs to have a good year, otherwise he might turn into another Andrew Wiggins type player, the player who has the potential to do so much, but the just have average stats and everything.
#8- Zach Lavine: Comment Below
Zach Lavine is becoming one of the best scoring SG’s in the NBA. The only problem is, he keeps getting hurt. Last season, he averaged 23.7 points and 4.7 rebounds. He shot 46.7% from the field, 37.4% from 3 and 83.2% from the foul line. Lavine could improve his foul shooting a little, but other than that, his numbers are really solid. He needs to stay healthy with the rest of this Bulls young core so that they can have a chance of making the playoffs. With their starting lineup alone, they could make the playoffs, and with the East being wide open, the last few spots are open to teams like the Bulls who needs a better than average season to get into the playoffs. Lavine will have to be their guy in the 4th quarter who gives them a bucket. With him being injured all the time, it will be a waste for both Lavine and the Bulls.
#7- CJ McCollum: Comment Below
CJ McCollum has become one of the better sidekicks in the NBA, with his smooth movements and shots and tough shots inside the paint. Last season, CJ averaged 21.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. He shot 45.9% from the field, 37.5% from 3, and 82.8% from the foul line. He could improve on his free throw shooting and his assists. With the Blazers going to be without Nurkic for most of the regular season, CJ will have to facilitate the ball more and score more. The Blazers might need him to averaged 23+ points and 5+ assists. When Nurkic gets back, he will take some of the load off of Dame and CJ on the offensive end. CJ also needs to stay consistent. When the defenses focus on Dame, CJ will have to run the sets and get his own shot. If CJ can stay consistent, then the Blazers will have a really strong chance at making it at least to the Western Conference Finals, if not the finals.
#6- Donovan Mitchell: Comment Below
In only 2 seasons in the NBA, Mitchell has proven himself to be one of the best SG’s in the NBA. Last season, Mitchell averaged 23.8 points and 4.2 assists. He shot 43.2% from the field, 36.2% from 3, and 80.6% from the line. He could improve his shooting numbers all around, but, with the Jazz adding Mike Conley in the offseason, Mitchell will not have to do as much on the offensive end and can fewer and better shots, in theory increase his shooting percentages. The only reason I put him above guys like Zach Lavine and CJ McCollum is because he is so young and has so much potential. He has the scoring skills to be a great talent in the NBA, and the Jazz have found a great star for the center of their rebuild and chase for an NBA Championship.
#5- Devin Booker: Comment Below
Devin Booker has established himself as a border-line All Star on a bad team, the Phoenix Suns. Last season, Booker averaged 26.6 points and 6.8 assists. He shot 46.7% from the field, 32.6% from 3, and 86.6% from the line. Those are amazing numbers. Booker mainly played PG last season, the reason for the assists. But, after acquiring Ricky Rubio, he can go back to what he does best, score. He can improve his 3 point shooting a little, but for how much he got the ball last season, and how he shot from the field, that’s a great sign for Booker and the Suns, bad for the rest of the league. He missed some games last season dealing with a hamstring injury. If he can try and stay healthy, he and the Suns will continue to grow chemistry and get better playing together. But, Booker has a raw talent of a young Kobe Bryant, and he has the scoring ability like somebody like a Kobe Bryant. When it is all said and done, Booker may be one of the greatest SG’s in the NBA and one of the greatest Phoenix Suns players. When the rest of the Suns start to catch up to Booker, they will be a real threat in the West.
#4- Klay Thompson: Comment Below
Klay Thompson has established himself as the 2nd best shooter on the Warriors and in the NBA in total. He is also one of the best 2-way guards in the NBA today. Last season, Thompson averaged 21.5 points and 3.8 rebounds. He shot 46.7% from the field, 40.2% from 3, and 81.6% from the line. Since Thompson will be out for all or most of this season, people will forget how good he really is. Before that ACL injury he suffered in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, Thompson had never missed a Finals game since 2015. So, he’s really durable. He is also a great defender and usually defends the best guard on the other team and does a really good job. He shoots the ball incredibly well for how much he shoots it and teams know what he does and he still shoots and scores with ease. When Thompson returns healthy for the Warriors, then we will remember how good he really is.
3- Bradley Beal: Comment Below
After John Wall went down with injury during this season, Bradley Beal had the best season of his career, even though the Wizards were still pretty bad. Last season, Beal averaged 25.6 points and 5.5 assists. He shot 47.5% from the field, 35.1% from 3, and 80.8% from the line. These are by far the best numbers of Beal’s career. And with people saying that Wall might miss all of this season, Beal will probably average the same numbers. He could improve his 3 and free throw percentages a little, although now that he is the #1 option, teams will pay more attention, making him take more shots and miss the majority of them. Beal is a great player, but he has never had any playoff success and neither has Wall. They used to be called one of the best duos in the NBA, but no since Wall is getting injured more often and the Wizards have not made the playoffs since 2018, but they were a #8 seed. The Wizards duo will have to get some playoff success in the future, otherwise they will be like John Stockton and Karl Malone, a great duo that never won an NBA Championship.
#2- Victor Oladipo: Comment Below
Before getting injured this season, Oladipo was leading the Pacers to one of their best seasons in a long time. With his offense and defense, Oladipo has turned into one of the best, if not the best 2-way guard in the NBA. Last season, Oladipo averaged 18.8 points and 5.6 rebounds. He shot 42.3% from the field, 34.3% from 3, and 73.0% from the line. Now I know what you are thinking, these are not the best numbers in the world, but the Pacers are a really balanced team, and they don’t need a 25+ point scorer, because they all work together. When Oladipo gets back somewhere near January and February he could improve his 3 and free throw percentage a bit, then he would be even more potent. The only reason that I put him over Bradley Beal and Klay Thompson, is because Beal is just a pure scorer with almost no defense. Thompson is like Oladipo, a guard who plays at both ends, but he is mainly a shooter, while Oladipo can shoot, dunk and is very athletic. If the Pacers are decent without Oladipo, then when he comes back healthy, they will be a solid team with him.
#1- James Harden: Comment Below
I don’t need to explain.
