Giannis DOMINATES, Gives Bucks First Title In 50 Years! 7.20.21
It’s a Tuesday night and we have Game 6 of the NBA Finals between the Bucks and Suns from Fiserv Forum.
(2) Phoenix Suns vs (3) Milwaukee Bucks
Phoenix Suns (2-4)
Man, the Suns really disappointed me in this series. They were up 2-0 but they just went completely away from what worked in games 1 & 2. Chris Paul had his off nights, the offense struggled a lot more than it should have at times, and the Suns had their opportunities in Games 4, 5, and 6. But they just couldn’t get it done.
They trailed by 13 early, had a great 2nd quarter where they outscored the Bucks 31-13 to take the lead, but they couldn’t get things done in the 2nd half. Booker and Crowder both missed a lot of 3’s in that 2nd, some of them wide, wide open looks. They couldn’t stop Giannis at all. That Dario Saric injury was so crippling for them, as their offensive rebounding troubles were also key in their loss.
I just feel bad for Chris Paul. This season kind of felt like the year, like all the planets had finally aligned for Chris Paul, a guy who was no stranger to bad luck and misfortune. But his Suns came up short and I don’t know what the future is for them. I don’t see CP-3 leaving, but this team needs size and they need some guys who can stop the guys like KD or Giannis, because they were absolutely bullied by Giannis.
But, it was still one heck of a season, losing in the Finals can’t take that away. While the end of the season brought a bitter taste, there was still a lot of sweetness in this season and the Suns should be proud of that.
Milwaukee Bucks (4-2)
Wow, the Bucks did it. I was one of the people who didn’t believe in this team, but they proved me and a lot of people wrong. Mike Budenholzer coached up a storm in the last 4 games of this series, he deserves my praises. Jrue Holiday was excellent defensively in this series and he of course had that incredible Game 5. Khris Middleton hit the dagger in this game and was their clutch scorer in these playoffs.
Bobby Portis brought the energy. Pat Connaughton was excellent. Brook Lopez was solid, PJ Tucker brought his usual hard-nosed defense.
But of course, what else can you say about Giannis Antetokounmpo? He’s Greek, he’s dorky, he’s not like most superstars in the NBA fraternity. He was great in the regular season, but people had their doubts about his ability to play at that same level in the NBA playoffs, we all had doubts if he could be the #1 player on a championship team.
He silenced all those doubts and more this postseason. Sweeping the Miami Heat, the team that had embarrassed them in the 2nd round in the Bubble, exorcising those demons. Then to take down the Brooklyn Nets. Who cares if they were hurt? It still took Giannis taking over to scratch out that series in 7 games. He had that incredibly scary knee injury in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. His teammates got the Bucks to the Finals, but how well could he play with that knee injury?
He somehow came back to play in Game 1 of this series, but the Bucks got stomped. He scored 42 points in Game 2, but they still lost. But then then he came back and got some help. 41 points in Game 3, the first player since Shaq in 2000 with back-to-back 40-point games in the Finals. He had 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists and the critical block in Game 4 to tie the series.
Then he had 32 points in Game 5, including the alley-oop that sealed the deal. The biggest game in Bucks history, he punched their tickets to try and win Game 6 at home.
Then there was Game 6, which was just otherworldly. 50 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Only the 7th player in NBA history with 50+ points in a NBA Finals game. But the most impressive thing was his free throw shooting. His biggest weakness, he had opposing teams’ fans counting to 10 to mock him. But he was an incredible 17/19 from the free throw line. Guess what? He’s only 26. There’s going to be a lot more time for Giannis to cement himself as one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.
Again, Congrats to the Bucks, you’re 2021 NBA Champs.
