Blazers End 5-Game Losing Streak; The Warriors Did What? 4.27.21

It’s another day of NBA hoops and we have 6 games on the schedule tonight.

OKC Thunder vs Boston Celtics

OKC Thunder

Finally a win, after 14 straight losses.

Excused

No Tatum, Walker, or Williams. This was a winnable game but the Celtics were missing so much shot creators. The one problem I have is that Boston shot 22% from 3. Let me reframe that, they shot 49 3’s. There’s no need to take that many, especially when you miss more than 3/4 of them.

28 for Pritchard off the bench really helped Jaylen Brown who led the way with 39 points. But Fournier was terrible as it was just the Pritchard and Brown show.

Milwaukee Bucks vs Charlotte Hornets

Coasting

The Bucks should have won by more, as they nearly lost to another short-handed team with them being fully healthy. I just don’t see dominance in the Bucks, despite the fact that this is easily the best roster they have put around Giannis. 3 All-Stars and I don’t really believe in them to win. It’s not impossible, but I just don’t see them as contenders with their flaws on defense, largely thanks to Mike Budenholzer who is mis-managing this team for a 3rd straight year.

A For Effort

The Hornets gave the Bucks all they had but it wasn’t enough. They fell behind by double-digits early but they kept with it. 25 for Devonte Graham, 21-10-6 for Miles Bridges who has been great this season. Solid outing, but it wasn’t enough. This team is dangerous, one that I wouldn’t be thrilled about playing in the first round. They’re getting Lamelo back soon and if they are at full strength, they have a chance to make noise come the postseason.

Portland Trail Blazers vs Indiana Pacers

It’s Beautiful

Just take it in for a moment, it’s beautiful. The Blazers played as a team and actually passed the ball. They led by nearly 40 in this game, finally winning.

Career-high 9 3’s for Anfernee Simons off the bench, 23 for Dame, 20 for CJ, 13 for Melo, 12 for Kanter, 15 for Roco, and a double-double for Nurkic. Portland shot 57% from 3 with 20 makes, as maybe this can get them going. I’m not hopeful.

Indiana Pacers

No Turner and Sabonis. The Pacers had somehow been winning, but they got humbled in this game.

Brooklyn Nets vs Toronto Raptors

Weird

KD shot the ball 7 times. Kyrie shot 23% from the field. The Nets won by 13. God this team is scary. KD didn’t shoot the ball and Kyrie didn’t shoot it well. KD still had 17 points, but 22 from Jeff Green, 16 from Joe Harris, 17 from Griffin. The Nets clinch a playoff birth as they hopefully can get that #1 seed away from Philly.

Wrath

The Raptors did their job. Kyrie was held in check and KD was pedestrian. 6 guys were in double figures and yet they still lost. I suppose losing to by far the most talented team in the league is no shame, but this just shows how good the Nets are. The Raptors are running out of games, they have to win a lot. The Wizards have been good and they have the 10th seed. Toronto is 1.5 games out of the play-in and they are currently 12th. The Raptors have just 10 games left, as they have to pull off a miracle to get in.

Minnesota T-Wolves vs Houston Rockets

Winning

I really didn’t care about this game. I watched like 5 minutes of it, the Rockets are depressing. Anyway, the T-Wolves had themselves a tough game but they pulled through. A bad 3rd quarter made the game close and after a 9-0 run, the game was tied at 102 with 2:38 left. Karl Anthony Towns fouled out with 2:21, as Minnesota had lost control. But after that point it was smooth sailing. Minnesota went on a 10-2 run which sealed the game, making them 9-6 with D-Lo and KAT on the floor.

31-7-5 for Towns before he fouled out, 19 points and 9 rebounds for Edwards, 22 for Juancho Hernangomez, and 15 for D-Lo. When D-Lo and KAT are healthy, the T-Wolves are competent. Their young trio featuring Edwards has a future.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets are 1-10 in their last 11 games. #1 seed incoming.

Dallas Mavericks vs Golden State Warriors

Blowout

I already embarrassed the Warriors, I’m not doing it again. Luka had 39-6-8 on 65% shooting, another day at the office. 5 others were in double figures. The Mavs shot 52% from the field and 51% from 3. It was a blowout and another win for the Mavs. Just got to get healthy now.

What Was That?

These numbers are startling. The Warriors didn’t score for the final 8:24 of the first quarter, going 0/17 from the field. The Mavs went on a 25-0 run during that span. The Warriors shot 21% from the field in the first half, 16% from 3 for just 29 points. They made more free throws than fields goes (10-8) and the Mavs made more 3’s than Warrior field goals in the first half (9-8).

The Warriors trailed by as much as 43 in this game and the only reason it didn’t get Clippers vs Mavs bad was because of 27 points from Curry. God this team is miserable sometimes.
