Can The Nuggets Comeback Again?

After the Nuggets won Game 3, they gained a little life in their series vs the Lakers. The question is, can the Nuggets come back again?

The Nuggets are used to being down and out. Down 3-1 vs the Jazz, the Nuggets were dead in the water. They advanced. Down 3-1 to the title favorite LA Clippers. They advanced. Now down 2-0 vs the Lakers, and the Nuggets responded once again. Basketball in 2020 man, crazy.

And now that the Nuggets have some life, I think that they can give the Lakers a run for their money.

The Nuggets offense hasn’t been the problem in this series. Overviewing this series before it started, I said that this would be an offensive series. I was right. Nobody can slow anybody down. And that will likely not change. The Nuggets offense needs to run through Murray and Jokic and the other guys will fill in the grey areas. I think that the Nuggets will need big production from Jerami Grant and Michael Porter Jr. in order to win this series.

But on defense, the Nuggets have found the key. In Game 1, LA shot 11/26 from 3 (42%). In Game 2, LA shot 13/36 (36%). In Game 3, LA shot 6/26 (23%). So the Nuggets need to limit the Lakers from 3. Because the Nuggets are too small for the Lakers. But if they can cut off the Lakers from 3, it becomes more of an even playing field. Gary Harris and Jamal Murray will have to stick with the Lakers shooters and make sure they don’t get hot.

So the Nuggets have found the keys to their success. But this all of this can’t happen unless one thing happens. They have to play with a sense of urgency. If the Nuggets slack around, they will lose. If they play like they did in Game 3, they give themselves a great chance to win this series. That first half encapsulated how they need to play. Limit the Lakers in transition and score on the other end. If they can string together stops and scores, they will be setup for success.

So the Nuggets have made this series, a series. Now with a chance to tie this series and really challenge the Lakers, the Nuggets will again need to respond. Murray and Jokic need to play like All-Stars. Grant, Morris, Harris, Millsap, and Porter Jr. will all need to pitch in on both ends of the floor. The Nuggets need to limit 3’s and easy transition points for LA. But most importantly, they need to play with urgency to win this series.
