Chicago With The Lead
On this day, June 16th, 1996, Michael Jordan won his 4th ring, his 1st since returning to basketball from baseball. I will be sharing some of Michael’s greatest moments
It was the 1998 NBA Finals, and the Bulls were leading the series 3-2. Michael Jordan, hit 3rd year in the league since retiring from the NBA, looked for his 6th NBA Championship and 2nd 3-peat.
With under a minute remaining, Jordan hit 2 free throws that tied the game at 83. With 41.9 seconds left, John Stockton hit a 3 to give the Jazz a 86-83 lead. With 37.1 seconds left, Jordan hit a layup to cut the lead to 1, 86-85. Karl Malone was posting up when Jordan came from behind and stole it from him. Now the Bulls would have a chance at taking the lead. With 10 seconds left, Jordan drove towards the middle, with 7 seconds left he crossed over on Byron Russell, who stumbled on trying to contest Jordan’s shot, giving Jordan a wide open shot, and he does not miss those. With 5.2 seconds left, Jordan had given the Bulls a 87-86 lead. They Bulls locked the Jazz down on the other end and Jordan had his 6th title, and his 2nd 3-peat. This would be Jordan’s last shot in a Chicago uniform, not a bad last shot if you ask me. Jordan finished the game with 45 points, averaging 33.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals, shooting 42.7% from the field and 30.8% from 3. This shot will go down as one of the most clutch shots of all time, but just one of many that Michael Jordan made during his long, illustrious career.
