Coronavirus Update: Naismith Awards Given!
Welcome back to the blog. I’m sorry I have not been posting often, but the blog and basketball in general has not been the #1 important thing for myself as well as millions of Americans across the country. But, today I will be giving any updates to the situation and giving light to any new news.
Giannis Antetokounmpo says he has no access to a hoop during the quarantine. Although he is a top 3 player in the NBA, some people think that this is concerning. I for one don’t think it is. When the NBA season comes back, then he and the Bucks will be able to practice again, and the Bucks will be the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference, so they will most likely sweep their opponent and Giannis can get his legs back under him. Giannis will most likely win another MVP, making him a 2x MVP as he looks for his 1st ring.
Obi Toppin has won the James Naismith Award for the NCAA Men’s Division. This award is given to the best player in the NCAA. Toppin is going to be a lottery pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and could become a great player at the next level. Sabrina Ionescu of Oregon won the Naismith for the women’s division. Ionescu will most likely be the #1 pick in the WNBA draft and could one of the greatest women’s players of all time.
The NBA has still not announced what the plan for the season is. Many speculations are going around however. Some people that the NBA goes straight into the playoffs. I don’t like this idea because they players will not get a runway to shake off the rust.
Some people say play out the whole regular season. This idea will most likely not work because there will be most likely not enough time to carry out this plan because the Finals would be in August instead of June.
Another option is to play 5-7 games and then go into the playoffs. This will give the players some sort of runway to shake off the rust before moving onto the playoffs. Worst-case scenario people are saying that the NBA season will be canceled all-together and we will have to crown the Milwaukee Bucks as the regular-season champions. This would not count as an actual ring, but it would be like winning the regular season. There are many actions on the table for the NBA to consider, and people are anxious for the season to resume.
But, the NBA season is still on hold, as are many sports leagues around the world. During these difficult times, everybody should take the right precautionary steps and keep yourself and others safe. In a few weeks, this hiatus/quarantine time period will be over. So just keep hanging in there. We will get through this together.
Please leave a comment on what you miss most about the NBA and what should the NBA regarding how the season should continue?
