David Robinson: The Admiral
David Robinson was born on August 6th, 1955 in Key West, Florida. He went on to be a 2x NBA Champion, 10x All Star and a MVP. He was one of the most dominant big man the NBA has ever seen.
Robinson went to Navy for 4 years (1983-1987). He was selected with the 1st overall pick in the 1987 draft by the San Antonio Spurs. He did not make his NBA debut until 1989 because he to fill his active Navy obligation. In his first season, the Spurs went 51-31 and lost in the Western Conference Semifinals to the Portland Trail Blazers in 7 games. This was the start of a great career for Robinson. The Spurs went to the finals in 1999 against the New York Knicks and won and again in 2003 against the Pistons and also won. In 1993-94, Robinson’s best season, he averaged 29.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 blocks and 1.7 steals. Those are beastly numbers. Overall, he won 2 NBA Championships, an MVP in 1995, was a 10x All Star, selected to 4 All NBA First Teams, 2 All NBA 2nd Teams, 4 All NBA 3rd Teams, a Defensive Player of the Year Award in 1992, selected to 4 1st Team All Defensive Teams, 4 2nd Team All Defensive Teams. He was the scoring leader in 1994, Blocks leader in 1992, Rebounding Leader in 1991, Rookie of the Year in 1990. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009 as an individual player and in 2010 as a member of the 1992 Dream Team.
Robinson had a really great career, was a great scorer and defender, and although he is not as remembered as some of the other big guys from his era’s, he is one of the best big guys the NBA will have ever seen.
