Did Steph Curry Deserve The 2015 NBA Finals MVP?

Stephen Curry became the best point guard of the 2010s, becoming a 3x champion and 2x MVP. But Curry has never won a Finals MVP, mainly because he played with Kevin Durant. But in 2015, most people believe that Curry should have won the MVP over Iguodala. So, did Curry actually deserve the Finals MVP in 2015?

Andre Iguodala won the 2015 Finals MVP, mainly for his defense of Lebron James, and he was one of the big reasons that the Warriors won that series. Lebron carried the Cavs to a 2-1 series lead, but Iggy shut him down in Game 4, and this game was the tipping point as the Warriors were able to win the series in 6 games. But if you look at Iguodala’s stats over that series, they aren’t that impressive.

Iggy In The 2015 Finals: 16.3 points and 5.8 rebounds with 1.3 steals. He shot 52% from the field and 40% from 3. Offensive Rating of 117 and Defensive Rating of 100 (net +17). He did all of this in about 37 minutes per game.

So Iggy was very good in this series. He was 2nd in points, 3rd in rebounds steals, first in FG% and 2nd in 3-PT%. He had a net rating of 17, which was 2nd on the team.

So Iguodala was very good in this series, and he was a very key factor. His performance based on the numbers is very good. He was the x-factor as he was the 2nd best player in this series.

So that naturally means that Curry was the first best player in the series. Curry played excellently throughout this series, and the case for him being Finals MVP vs Iguodala is very, very close.

Curry averaged 26.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists. Curry also averaged 1.8 steals. Curry shot 44% from the field and 39% from 3. Curry had an offensive rating of 104 and a defensive rating of 102 (net rating of +2).

So while Curry had less of a statistical impact, Curry was great all series. He averaged the most points and assists on the Warriors this series and was pretty efficient, especially saying that the Cavs tried to smother him all series long.

But Curry was very good throughout this series, and he made some big shots. Curry had 4 points in OT in Game 1 that helped fuel the Warriors to a 108-100 victory. He had 26 points and 8 assists overall. Curry scored 17 points in the 4th quarter of Game 3, but the Warriors still lost. He had 24 of his 27 points in the 2nd half of Game 3.

Curry had 14/22 of his points in the 2nd half of Game 4, a pivotal win for the Warriors. Curry had 37 points in Game 5, shooting 57% from the field. He had 17 points in the 4th including 3/5 from 3-point range. And Curry had 13 points in the 4th quarter in the closeout Game 6. Curry was amazing when it mattered.

So while I think that Iggy was the 2nd best player for the Warriors in this series, Curry was the clear #1. He was great in big spots and was the reason that the Warriors won this title because Klay Thompson was hot garbage. I still don’t know how Iggy won this award when Curry was the clear #1 here. He was absolutely incredible in his first ever finals series.
