How Many More Rings Can Lebron Win?

Lebron James has been one of the greatest players to ever play this game, and he has shown no signs of slowing down at the age of 35. Winning his 4th ring in 2020, Lebron has a chance to add more rings to his very, very impressive resume. But how many more rings can Lebron win?

Lebron has shown no signs of slowing down, like no signs of slowing down. James is 35 years old and he is still the best player in the world (yes I said it, whatever). The Lakers proved many people wrong, including myself by winning the title this season. Lebron has his best teammate ever in Anthony Davis and he will be staying with Lebron for the rest of his career. So Lebron has an all-world teammate and a solid team around him. But can he still win titles in the twilight of his career.?

The NBA landscape will be changing a lot, especially in the upcoming 2020-21 season. A lot going into next season in unknown, which kind of makes it a very interesting and mysterious season. There will be a lot more big names coming into the picture next season, but it all depends on how good they are.

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson haven’t played for a full season for a long time, with Thompson not playing since Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals. Curry dealt with a broken hand and didn’t play great in his limited return to action. So if they return to what they were, they will be great and the Warriors will likely be a playoff team once again. But if not, it’s one less team Lebron has to worry about in the absolutely loaded Western Conference.

You’ve got KD and Kyrie coming together for the first time this upcoming season. Durant missed all of last season dealing with that torn Achilles, and if history repeats, Durant won’t be the same. Irving was good last season, but didn’t play much due to injuries. These two have the chance to be great as a duo, but again injuries play a big part in that. And if they aren’t what we think that they can be, it’s another contender out of the way for Lebron.

The West will again be loaded with:
The Nuggets with Jokic and Murray
The Clippers with PG and Kawhi
The Mavs with Luka and KP
The Blazers with Dame and CJ
The Jazz with Mitchell and Gobert
The Grizzlies with Ja Morant
The Suns with Devin Booker
The Timberwolves with D-LO and KAT
The Thunder with CP-3
The Rockets with Harden and Westbrook
The Spurs with DeMar DeRozan
The Pelicans with BI and Zion

And if Lebron makes it to the Finals, it depends on who he is playing. If the Bucks actually make changes to their very flawed roster and flawed system, they might have a chance. If the Celtics get some big guys that can defend AD, then they will have a chance. If the Raptors can turn Pascal Siakam into a star then they might have a chance. If the Heat can replicate what they did this season and stay healthy, they still pose a problem.

I see the 2020-21 season as Lebron’s best chance for ring #5. There is a lot of unknowns, with a lot of teams being contenders of not based on the health of their superstars. It also depends on who Lebron plays in the playoffs. This season Lebron played very easy teams en route to title #4, and I don’t think he can continue to get away with that.

I expect Lebron to be in the running for rings for the next 3-4 seasons, the only thing holding him back is injuries to himself or AD. I expect the Lakers to try and keep retooling the roster to fit Lebron. My best estimate would be 1 ring or less. I just see the West getting better and if the best teams in the East fix their holes, it won’t be so easy for Lebron.

So my final guess for how many rings Lebron will win during the rest of his career is 1, likely in the 2020-21 season with all the uncertainty. Anything past that and Lebron’s chances really start to drop.
