Jerry Sloan Passes at 78 – Ewing Contracts Virus
Today, the NBA community received the news that legendary Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan had passed at the age of 78.
Today, the NBA community faced a tragedy as former Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan died at the age of 78. Sloan is of course one of the greatest coaches the NBA has ever seen. In 23 years with the Utah Jazz, they made the playoffs 20 times, reaching the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998. Sloan won 1,221 games with the Jazz, which ranks 4th all time in NBA History.
Along with being one of the greatest coaches ever, Sloan was also a great player. He was selected 4th overall in the 1965 Draft. Sloan played 10 of his 11 seasons with the Chicago Bulls. He was a 2x All-Star and had career averages of 14.0 points and 7.4 rebounds.
Sloan was very high in many of the Bulls all-time records including:
4th in games played with 696
3rd in minutes played with 24,798
4th in field goals made with 3,996
4th in field goals attempted with 9,357
5th in rebounds with 5,385
5th in points with 10,233
Sloan was legend both as a player and as a coach, and he will be dearly missed by everybody in the NBA family.
Former New York Knicks legend and now Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing announced that he had contracted the coronavirus. Ewing is under care and isolated at a local hospital. Georgetown says that nobody else on the team has contracted the virus.
Ewing has been the coach at Georgetown since 2017. Arguably the greatest Hoya ever, Ewing led them to their only national title in 1984 and won College Player of the year in 1985. He earned First Team All-American in 3 straight years from 1983-85.
Ewing was selected #1 overall by the Knicks in 1985. He was an 11x All-Star and averaged 22.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks over his 15 year career with the Knicks, Magic and Sonics.
Prayers go out to him and his family.
