Karl Malone: The Mailman
On July 24, 1963, Karl Malone was born in Summerfield, Louisiana. He went on to be one of the greatest power forwards of all time. Although he never won an NBA Championship because of Jordan and Bulls, Malone is still one of the greatest scorers and players of all time.
Malone went to college at Louisiana Tech University for 3 years, and in 1985, he was selected with the 13th pick by the Utah Jazz. This was the same pick as Kobe Bryant in the 1996 NBA Draft to the Los Angeles Lakers. The year before, in 1984, John Stockton was picked with the 16th pick. Malone appeared in the playoffs every single year that he was in the league, including 2 trips to the finals in 1997 and 1998. He also had a finals appearance in 2004 when he was with the Los Angeles Lakers. Malone has the most postseason losses of any player with 95. He also won 2 MVP’s in 1997 and 1999, was a 14x All-Star, 11x First Team All-NBA, 3x All Defensive 1st Team. He ranks 2nd in points all time with 36,928, trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Most of all, people remember the duo of John Stockton and Karl Malone. They are the most effective at the pick and roll, with Malone cutting to hoop or shooting a jump shot. Stockton would deliver the perfect pass to Malone, giving him lots of easy shots. This duo might be the 2nd greatest duo of all time, behind Jordan and Pippen for the Bulls.
I hope you enjoyed this post featuring Karl Malone, please leave a comment on what other players I should do and also who will win the NBA Championship next season.
