Kevin Garnett: The Ticket

On July 31st, 2007, Kevin Garnett was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Boston Celtics to team up with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. These were the most memorable years of his career, when he won his 1st title in 2008 against the Lakers.

Garnett was very successful with the Timberwolves, leading them to 8 straight playoff appearances and in 2004 leading them to the Western Conference Finals and winning the MVP award. But he was not in a position to win a title, so he was traded to Boston to go pair up with Paul Pierce. The Celtics also managed to get Ray Allen, forming a big 3 in Boston. In 2007, the Celtics were really good, going 66-16 and winning the NBA Finals in their first year. The Celtics were great in the coming years, getting more Finals appearances, only to lose to Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. Garnett started to get injuries and Ray Allen left and Pierce was getting older. Then the Miami Heat went and got Lebron James and then they were the kings of the Eastern Conference. He finished his career with 1 NBA Championship, 1x MVP (2004), 15x All-Star, 4x All-NBA First Team, 3x All-NBA 2nd Team, 2x All-NBA 3rd Team, Defensive Player of the Year (2008), 9x All-Defensive 1st Team and a 4x rebounding champion.

The Kevin Garnett trade turned out to be a blessing for KG because he won a ring and continued to be dominant with many deep playoff runs.

Garnett was a really good player and is underrated for how good he was and how dominant he was when he was with Minnesota. He is one of the best power forwards since the break of the 2000’s.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post of This Day In NBA History, please comment below on which player I should do and when I should do them.
