Magic Johnson Steps Down as Lakers President, Legends Retire
The day before the NBA season ended, Magic Johnson stepped down as the Lakers President of Basketball Operations. Magic said that “he wanted to go back to having fun.” This was very unusual. especially that he did not wait until the offseason to step down, but instead do it at the end of the season in which the Lakers largely disappointed. Magic said that he did not talk to anybody before his decision, which is also unusual. Now, the Lakers have just wasted one year of Lebron’s career with the Lakers, and now they need a new president, and they need to rebuild and get free agents. They also need more players with more experience and more solid players, not players who have 20 points in one game, and 6 the next night.
Also, along with Magic Johnson stepping down, we saw many Hall of Famer caliber players retire. Dwayne Wade had 30 points in his last home game with Miami. He also had a triple-double in his last game against the Nets. Dirk also had 30 points in his last home game with Dallas. In his final game as a Maverick, Dirk had 20 points. Here are some accomplishments for both of these Hall of Famers.
Dwayne Wade: 3x Championships, 1x Finals MVP, 13x All-Star, 1x All-Star MVP, 2x All-NBA First Team, 3x All NBA 2nd Team, 3x All-NBA 3rd Team, 3x All-Defensive 2nd Team, 1x Rookie First Team, 1x Scoring Champion, 23,165 career points (29th on the scoring list.)
Dirk Nowitzki: 1x Champion, 1x Finals MVP, 1x MVP, 14x All-Star, 4x All-NBA First Team, 5x All-NBA 2nd Team, 3x All NBA 3rd Team, 1x 3PT Contest winner, 31, 560 career points, (6th on the scoring list.)
