NBA In Talks With Disney To Resume Season
The NBA has been in talks with Disney about the possibility of resuming the season and the playoffs, finally finishing the 2019-20 season.
With the sports world coming back, the NBA is closer to being back. Recently, the NBA has been in talks with Disney about resuming the 2019-20 season at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports resort in Orlando.
The two sides have been discussing for a little while now, and more information about when the season might return is limited so far, but more will come out as the two sides talk more in the future.
It is widely believed that the NBA will be returning in mid-late June.
I think that this bubble idea is a good idea, but there have to be a few constraints. First of all, players and coaches should not be able to leave the bubble. I think that this limits the chance that the virus can enter the resort and affect the players. I know that it will be summer soon and Orlando is known for its summertime fun, but if the players are really serious about resuming the season, then they can’t leave the resorts.
Secondsly, there has to be the regular safety measures and testing available. Everybody should be screened as they enter hotels, arenas and everywhere they enter and leave from, they should be screened for temperature. If we find out that one player has contracted the virus, then you would isolate them and quarantine them away from the team. The rest of the team would resume play.
On the basis of what should the NBA do in terms of returning and finishing the regular season or going straight to the playoffs, I think that they should just go straight to the playoffs. There are no teams in the NBA that have a chance to sneaking into the playoffs. In the West, the Blazers are 3 1/2 games out. As a Blazers fan, I can’t say that we are going to make the playoffs. The Eastern Conference is not even close, so why bother increasing the risk of players getting injured or contracting the virus when nobody needs too.
For the 14 teams that didn’t make the playoffs, you could have a single-elimination type tournament, and there would be a winner for non-playoff teams. This would give teams a chance to play for something, but not a chance at an NBA Championship, which they don’t deserve.
I think that the reason that the NBA should go straight to the playoffs is nobody wants to see the playoffs without any of the stars like Lebron, Kawhi or Giannis. Just let the playoff teams have a 1-2 week training period and get straight into the playoffs.
So, to reiterate my earlier point, I think that the NBA season resuming in the bubble city will happen, but there have to be lots of safety measures to keep everybody safe. The NBA should let the 16 playoff teams, they would get a 1-2 week training period to get back into form, and start the playoffs. The 14 teams that didn’t make the playoffs should have something like a single-elimination tournament where they compete for the title, but not an NBA title.
