It’s Day 24 of the NBA Playoffs and we have 1 game on the schedule today, Game 5 between the Rockets and the Lakers.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets lost Game 5 against the Lakers. Here is what I thought about their performance.

After a Game 1 win, the Rockets have not been able to adapt against the Lakers defense and they have fallen off a cliff. Now trailing 3-1 in the series, the Rockets season would likely end. And that is exactly what happened. The Rockets started off slow and trailed by as much 22 in the 1st quarter. The Rockets tried their best, but could not get back into it. Houston lost 119-96. The Rockets lose 4-1 and their season is over.

Offensively the Rockets were poor as they shot 37% from the field and 27% from 3. The Rockets were also 17/24 from the free throw line. Houston had 12 turnovers. The Rockets also had 36 points in the paint.

Defensively the Rockets were terrible as LA shot 53% from the field and 51% from 3. LA was also 22/29 from the free throw line. The Rockets forced 19 turnovers. The Rockets also allowed 34 points in the paint.

James Harden had 30 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jeff Green had 13 points off the bench. Russell Westbrook also had 10 points and 6 assists.

Conclusion

The Rockets really didn’t look they cared at all during this series as they didn’t seem to care after LA figured them out. While I didn’t expect the Rockets to win this series, their performance was a little depressing. The Rockets will have some decisions to make this offseason concerning their coach and the direction they want to go with the franchise. It’ll be interesting to see what they do.

LA Lakers

The Lakers won Game 5 against the Rockets. Here is what I thought about their performance.

After dropping Game 1, the Lakers have dominated this series. Lebron and AD have led the way and they have gotten key contributions from other guys. The Lakers have looked very good in this series as they look for the series win. And they did just that as they dominated again. They led by as much as 22 in the 1st quarter, and they never relinquished their lead. The Lakers cruised to a 119-96 victory, beating the Rockets 4-1 in the series. The Lakers advance to the Conference Finals for the 1st time since 2010.

Offensively the Lakers were great as they shot 53% from the field and 51% from 3. LA was also 22/29 from the free throw line. The Lakers turned the ball over 19 times. The Lakers also had 34 points down low.

Defensively the Lakers were also great as Houston shot 37% from the field and 27% from 3. Houston was also 17/24 from the free throw line. The Lakers forced 12 turnovers. LA also allowed 36 points in the paint.

Lebron James had 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. Kyle Kuzma had 17 points off the bench. Markieff Morris had 16 points. Danny Green added 14 points. Anthony Davis and KCP were also in double-figures.

Conclusion

The Lakers dominated this series as after Game 1, their defense stepped up and they dominated. Lebron and AD have looked very good and the role guys have also been great. The Lakers get a couple days rest before playing either the Clippers or the Nuggets. The Lakers look a very scary team entering the deep side of the playoffs, and they have a great chance of winning a title.
