It’s Day 27 of the NBA Playoffs and we have Game 2 of the Eastern Conference between the Celtics and the Heat.

Miami Heat

The Heat won Game 2 against the Celtics. Here is what I thought about their performance.

After an impressive come-from-behind victory in Game 1, the Heat looked to take a 2-0 series lead against the Celtics. The Heat are 9-1 in the playoffs and they can’t seem to be stopped. That proved to be true in Game 2 as well. But it didn’t start well for the Heat. The Heat got trampled in the first half as they allowed 60 points. They trailed by 13 at halftime. But the Heat were not ones to panic as they dominated the 3rd. They scored 37 points fueled by Bam Adebayo’s paint presence. The Heat took a 7-point lead entering the 4th. And the Heat looked like they would lose as Boston took the lead, 91-89 with 5:37 left. But Jimmy Butler tied the game with 3:03 left. Goran Dragic scored 5 straight points to give the Heat a 5-point lead. The Heat led by 7 and held off the Celtics attempts at a comeback as they won 106-101. Miami takes a 2-0 series lead.

Offensively the Heat were solid as they shot 44% from the field and 33% from 3. Miami was also 12/14 from the free throw line. Miami had 11 offensive rebounds. The Heat turned the ball over just 9 times. Miami also had 48 points down low.

Defensively the Heat were poor as they shot 50% from the field and 36% from 3. Boston was also 19/24 from the free throw line. The Heat forced 20 turnovers. Miami also allowed 42 points in the paint.

Goran Dragic had 25 points and 5 assists. Bam Adebayo had 21 points and 10 rebounds. Duncan Robinson had 18 points. Jimmy Butler added 14 points. Tyler Herro had 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists off the bench. Jae Crowder was also in double figures.

Conclusion

The Heat gutted out another come from behind victory. They trailed by 17 in the 1st half as they couldn’t stop Boston. But behind Bam Adebayo in the 3rd, they got back into the game. And when they needed some scores, they went to the Dragon. Dragic hot some big shots late. The Heat take a 2-0 series lead as like the Nuggets, they don’t seem to get fazed by the scoreboard. The Heat now look to win Game 3 and essentially end the series.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics lost Game 2 against the Heat. Here is what I thought about their performance.

After blowing multiple opportunities in Game 1, the Celtics needed to win Game 2 in order to stay alive in the series. Kemba Walker would need to play better and Boston would need to do better on defense. And it looked like they had accomplished that in the first half. Boston’s offense scored 60 points and led by as many as 17. But then the 3rd quarter collapse happened. Boston scored just 17 points and allowed Bam Adebayo to score at will down low. The Celtics now trailed by 7 entering the 4th. But Boston didn’t lay down, they fought back. They actually took a 94-89 lead with 4:25 left. But the Celtics couldn’t get stops and after 5 straight Goran Dragic points, they trailed 100-95. The Celtics had one last had one last chance to win, but they came up short as they lost 106-101.

Offensively the Celtics were great as they shot 50% from the field and 36% from 3. The Celtics were also 19/24 from the free throw line. The Celtics had 20 turnovers. Boston also had 42 points in the paint.

Defensively the Celtics were sub-par as Miami shot 44% from the field and 33% from 3. Miami was also 12/14 from the free throw line. The Celtics allowed 11 offensive rebounds. The Celtics forced just 9 turnovers. Boston also allowed 44 points in the paint.

Kemba Walker had 23 points and 7 rebounds. Jayson Tatum had 21 points and 5 rebounds. Jaylen Brown had 21 points and 6 rebounds as well. Marcus Smart added 14 points.

Conclusion

Again, the Celtics blew another winnable game. After a big lead and great 1st half, they threw it away almost immediately in the 3rd quarter after they got outscored by 20. And in the 4th they couldn’t get stops when they desperately needed to. Again, the offense was great. The 20 turnovers are problematic, but Boston usually doesn’t turn the ball over much. The Celtics defense needs to be better over the course of 48 minutes, not just the 1st half. Boston now finds themselves down 0-2 and now they are really desperate for some wins.
