It’s Day 36 of the NBA Playoffs and we have Game 6 of the ECF between the Heat and the Celtics.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics lost Game 6 against the Heat. Here is what I thought about their performance.

After trailing 3-1 in the series, the Celtics won game 6 and now had some life. They trailed 3-2 in the series and they needed a win to force a Game 7. And it looked like the Celtics would do it. The Celtics again started slow but they came back and the game was close at halftime. But the Celtics allowed the Heat to get going and they trailed by 8 at one point in the 3rd. But the Celtics came back and took a 96-90 lead in the 4th. And then the Celtics collapsed. They got outscored 35-17 in the final 8 minutes of the 4th and Boston lost 125-113. Boston has been eliminated from the playoffs.

Offensively the Celtics were solid as they shot 43% from the field and 33% from 3. Boston was also 12/15 from the free throw line. Boston also had 13 offensive rebounds. The Celtics had just 10 turnovers. The Celtics also had 50 points off the bench.

Defensively the Celtics were poor as Miami shot 56% from the field and 48% from 3. Miami was also 22/26 from the free throw line. The Celtics forced just 12 turnovers. Boston also allowed 48 points in the paint.

Jaylen Brown had 26 points and 8 rebounds. Jayson Tatum had 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 11 assists. Marcus Smart had 20 points and 8 rebounds. Kemba Walker added 20 points and 5 assists. Gordon Hayward added 12 points off the bench.

Conclusion

The Celtics definitely should be disappointed about their chances in this series and they definitely could have won. But the Celtics, like the Nuggets, will only get better. Tatum and Brown are very young, and Walker and Hayward have a few years left. The Celtics definitely have some holes, but they will be a good team for a long time in the East.

Miami Heat

The Heat won Game 6 against the Celtics. Here is what I thought about their performance.

After dropping Game 5, the Heat needed to win Game 6 in order to end the series and get rid of the Celtics. They would need some of their patented Heat defense and some more offense in order to beat this Celtics team. And they would get that. The Heat started off hot, but the Celtics remained close in the first half. The Heat jumped out in the 3rd and led by 8 at one point. But the Celtics came back and the Heat trailed by 6 early in the 4th. But then the Heat dominated. They outscored Boston 35-17 in the final 8 minutes and the Heat won 125-113. The Heat advance to the NBA Finals.

Offensively the Heat were great as they shot 56% from the field and 48% from 3. Miami was also 22/26 from the free throw line. The Heat just had 12 turnovers. The Heat also had 48 points in the paint.

Defensively the Heat were solid as Boston shot 43% from the field and 33% from 3. Boston was also 12/15 from the free throw line. Miami allowed 13 offensive rebounds. Miami forced 10 turnovers. The Heat also allowed 50 points in the paint.

Bam Adebayo had 32 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jimmy Butler had 22 points and 8 assists. Tyler Herro had 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists off the bench. Duncan Robinson had 15 points and 6 rebounds. Andre Iguodala added 15 points off the bench. Goran Dragic had 13 points and 7 assists as well.

Conclusion

The Heat beat all the odds and are now in the Finals. They all bought in and they played great team basketball. This team is very deep with shooters and defenders scattered throughout. The Heat only lost 3 games through the East and now face Lebron and the Lakers. But the Heat will give the Lakers a run for their money and this NBA Finals will be interesting.
