It’s Day 38 of the NBA Playoffs and we have Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Lakers and the Heat.
Miami Heat
The Heat lost Game 2 against the Lakers. Here is what I thought about their performance.
The Heat got dominated in Game 1 and things would not be getting better in Game 2. Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic would both be out with injuries. So Game 2 would be another uphill battle for the underdog Heat. But that wouldn’t stop them from trying. The Heat fell behind early and never seemed to gain control in the first half. They scored 39 points in the 3rd quarter and remained competitive, but the Lakers proved to be too much. Miami lost 124-114 and they trail 0-2 in this series.
Offensively the Heat were great as they shot 51% from the field and 41% from 3. The Heat were also 31/34 from the free throw line. Miami had just 9 turnovers. Miami also had 46 points in the paint.
Defensively the Heat were poor as LA shot 51% from the field and 34% from 3. The Lakers were also 10/17 from the free throw line. The Heat allowed 16 offensive rebounds. Miami also forced just 9 turnovers. Miami also allowed 54 points down low.
Jimmy Butler had 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 13 assists. Kelly Olynyk had 24 points and 9 rebounds off the bench. Tyler Herro had 17 points and 7 rebounds. Kendrick Nunn had 13 points off the bench as well. Jae Crowder added 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Conclusion
Even though the Heat were overmatched, they put up quite the fight in Game 2. This game could have very easily gotten out of hand, but the Heat never allowed it to. But they could never overcome the Lebron James and Anthony Davis hill. I think that even with Adebayo maybe returning to Game 3, it won’t make much of a difference. The Heat were quite the story of these playoffs, but their time isn’t now.
LA Lakers
The Lakers won Game 2 against the Miami Heat. Here is what I thought about their performance.
After dominating Miami in Game 1, the Lakers looked to do it again and really clamp down on the over-matched Heat. Miami would be without Adebayo and Dragic, so it seemed like a sure win for the Lakers. And it was. The Lakers jumped out on the Heat early and never let them back in it. While the Lakers were never truly blowing Miami out, the game wasn’t particularly close for long stretches. LA won 124-114, giving them a 2-0 series lead.
Offensively the Lakers were excellent as they shot 51% from the field and 34% from 3. LA was also 10/17 from the free throw line. The Lakers had 16 offensive rebounds. The Lakers had just 9 turnovers. LA added 54 points down low.

Lebron James had 33 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. Anthony Davis had 32 points and 14 rebounds. Rajon Rondo had 16 points and 10 assists off the bench. KCP added 11 points and Kyle Kuzma had 11 points as well.
Conclusion
Although the Lakers played considerably worse than they did in Game 1, they still cruised to a win. AD and Lebron were again, great. They got some excellent performances from Rondo, Kuzma, and KCP as well. The defense wasn’t as dominant, although it was good enough. The Lakers now take a commanding 2-0 series lead, the first time ever that Lebron has had a 2-0 series lead in the Finals. This series will be over in 4 games, 5 if something weird happens. Congrats to the Lakers for being 2020 NBA Champs.
