Portland Ruins Dame’s Historic Night!; Suns Push Lakers To The Brink! 6.1.21
The NBA Playoffs enter the month of June and we have 3 games 5’s on the schedule tonight.
(7) Boston Celtics vs (2) Brooklyn Nets
Boston Celtics (1-4)
At least you tried. The Celtics were just overmatched in this series. Hopefully things are better next year.
Brooklyn Nets (4-1)
Watch out Milwaukee.
(6) Portland Trail Blazers vs (3) Denver Nuggets
Portland Trail Blazers (2-3)
Damian Lillard is on his own. This team is so bad without him. He was the only guy doing anything in the 4th quarter and overtimes. But he just got no help. Portland was down 22 in the first half, went on 23-3 run to get back into the game (Dame had 18 in the first half). Then Nurkic gets 5 fouls (3 offensive) in the 2nd half and the Nuggets seemingly pull away late, despite Dame’s antics.
Denver leads 119-115 with 52.1 seconds left. But Portland gets a steal after trading misses and CJ (finally) hits a corner 3 with 13.7 seconds left, lead it just one. Morris makes two free throws and its 121-118. Dame Time. Lillard got fouled by Austin Rivers with 9.8 seconds left, initially getting 3 free throws. But Denver uses their final timeout to challenge and it works, kind of. The challenge is unsuccessful, but it’s not a shooting foul. It’s a side out.
So now Dame has to get 3 points. He did it again. Against MPJ, he makes a nasty step back and drills a 3 for the tie. With no timeouts, Denver doesn’t get a good look and we head to OT. Dame has 38 entering OT, with 20 in the 2nd half.
In the first OT, the game was a blowout. Denver started OT on a 13-5 run, leading by 8 with 1:52 left. Game Over? Incorrect. Why? Damian Lillard. Lillard went to work as his teammates stood there and did nothing. He hit a 3 with one minute left, 5 point game. He hit another 3 with 23.4 seconds left, down by just two.
Monte Morris makes just 1/2 free throws with 16.5 seconds left and Portland now has a chance for the tie. Lillard attacks and then shoots a very tough fadeaway. He might have gotten fouled, but it was a lot harder than the first one. He of course made that shot, 50 points on the night, 9 points in one minute, tie game, double OT.
In Double OT, Dame hits another ridiculous 3 but this time his horrible support was just too much. Portland for some reason just didn’t give the ball to Dame on a couple of possessions. Denver wasn’t even doubling him and yet CJ took it upon himself to lose the game. He stepped out of bounds with 10.2 seconds left and Portland down 3, ending the game. Dame, for the love of god, LEAVE.
Dame had 55 points, 6 rebounds, and 10 assists with only one turnover. 17/24 shooting (71%). 12/17 shooting from 3, most 3’s made in a playoff game and he had the most efficient game with 10+ 3’s made. He had a true shooting percentage of 97%. Dame was 6/8 shooting in the overtimes. His teammates were 1/19. First player in any game in NBA history with 50 points, 10 assists, and 10 3’s in a game. Still lost.
McCollum was 7/22. Powell was 5/14. Melo was 3/11 and Simons was 2/7. We don’t deserve you Dame. You are of higher standards than this crappy team. Please leave, go to New York, anywhere. Get out of here, we don’t deserve you. I get you’re loyal and you want to win here. But enough is enough. This team hasn’t put nearly enough talent around you. LEAVE.
Denver Nuggets (3-2)
You’re so lucky Dame doesn’t have teammates. Whatever, you’re going to win the series and lose to the Suns/Lakers in the next round. Good job.
(7) LA Lakers vs (2) Phoenix Suns
LA Lakers (2-3)
Without AD this offense was horrible. Cameron Payne and Devin Booker scored 36 combined points in the first half. The Lakers as a team had 36 points. Lebron was awful, not looking like himself. Now the Lakers are on the brink of elimination, down 3-2 with 2 games left to salvage this season. AD is likely not 100% if he returns in this series, although he is almost 100% going to be playing in Game 6, health be damned. Lets see if LA can escape this one.
Phoenix Suns (3-2)
The Suns dominated and they are now one game away from upsetting the Lakers. Don’t mess this up Phoenix, dethrone the King.
