RJ Barrett: Next Superstar?

RJ Barrett was one of the best guards in the nation this year and helped lead Duke all the way to the Elite Eight, where they lost by 1 to Michigan State. Even so, Barrett had a great season as a freshman, averaging 22.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, shooting 45.4% from the field and 30.8% from 3. These are great stats for a freshman and he, along with Zion Williamson, led Duke deep into the tournament. In my other post, I talked about some people calling Zion a potential bust because his game does not translate to the NBA today. In my opinion, Barrett’s game has a better chance to succeed because he has the ability to knock down threes and jump shots.

Where will he be drafted? According to NBADraft.net, RJ Barrett will be picked 3rd overall and go to the Cleveland Cavaliers. This may be the player that the Cavaliers need. This year, the Cavaliers starting lineup has been: Brandon Knight, Larry Nance Jr, Cedi Osman, Collin Sexton and Tristan Thompson. Barrett would be an upgrade over Brandon Knight and Cedi Osman, and he could pair up with fellow young guard Collin Sexton from Alabama. This would be one of the building blocks moving forward for the Cavaliers, who have been one of the worst teams in the league since Lebron James. But, he may move up to the 2nd pick because the Suns have been playing Devin Booker at the Point Guard and then move Barrett to the Shooting Guard position. So, the future for RJ Barrett is looking really bright in the NBA and he could turn into one of the best young talents in the NBA.
