Scott Wedman: The Invisible Hulk
On July 29th, 1952, Scott Wedman was born in Harper, Kansas. He went on to be a great role player in the NBA, playing for the Kansas City Kings, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics. He was a pretty good scorer and a great defender.
Wedman went to college at Colorado for 3 years (1971-1974.) He was picked with the 6th overall pick by the Kansas City Kings. He played there for 8 seasons, (1974-1981.) In 1979-80 and 1980-81, he was at the peak of his career, averaging 19.0 points per game. He signed with the Cavaliers as a free agent in 1981, and played for 3 seasons until 1983 when he was traded to the Celtics. He played a major bench role in the Celtics 2 championships in 1984 and 1986. This team had lots of future Hall of Famers like Larry Bird, Kevin Mchale, Robert Parish, Bill Walton, Dennis Johnson, Tiny Archibald, Danny Ainge. Although Scott Wedman never made to the Hall of Fame (yet), he still has one of the greatest NBA Finals performances of all time. It was Game 1 of the 1985 NBA Finals and Wedman hit all of 11 shots, including 4 3’s, to get 26 points. The Celtics eventually lost that series but won next year in 1986. Overall, Wedman won 2 NBA Titles, 2x All-Star, All-Defensive 2nd Team and All Rookie First Team (1975.)
Wedman was a really good player when he was younger and when he was older, he proved to be a great help to a stacked Celtics team win 2 rings.
I hope you enjoyed this edition of This Day In History, please leave a comment on what player I should do next and when I should do them.
