The Biggest Winners From The NBA Draft

After a couple of days, some winners and losers have appeared. Today I will be going over some of the bigger winners from the 2020 NBA Draft. These teams either made some really good draft picks or they maneuvered an excellent trade. Here are the biggest winners from the NBA Draft.

Sacramento Kings

The Kings did a lot of good things in the draft. They tried to trade Bogdan Bogdanovic, but that didn’t work. So the Kings went into the draft looking for his replacement as most people estimate he will leave the team during free agency. So the Kings got an upgrade by most measures.

Tyrese Haliburton was one of the biggest steals of this draft. He fell all the way to pick 12, right into the laps of the Kings. Haliburton is going to be one of the best players in this draft. He his a great playmaker and is also great on offense. His form is a bit weird, but he was very efficient at Iowa State. He is also a great slasher as he makes it tough on defenses with his lanky build.

Also with this lanky build comes the defensive potential. Haliburton averaged 2.5 steals during his sophomore season. He is going to be a excellent two-way combo guard who has a lot of potential. His defensive rating in college didn’t go above 103, which is something that shows he will be a great defender. This pickup by Sacramento is very, very good.

At pick 40, the Kings took Robert Woodard. Woodard is a 6-7 forward, but he is an excellent shooter. He shot 43% from 3 during his sophomore season at Mississippi State. Woodard was pretty efficient and is big enough to guard some people in the post as he weighs 230 lb. Woodard is also solid on defense, so the Kings might be getting another sleeper pick here.

And just 3 picks later, the Kings took Jahmi’us Ramsey. Ramsey spent just one season at Texas Tech, where he was excellent. He averaged 15.0 points on excellent efficiencies, especially 43% from 3 on 5.2 attempts per game. Ramsey is another great shooter as the Kings are preparing to lose Bogdanovic and maybe even Buddy Hield. Ramsey is an excellent shooter and defender, and I think the Kings hit on yet another pick.

So the Kings haul included the two-way combo guard Tyrese Haliburton at pick 12, sharp-shooting forward Robert Woodard, and two-way sharp-shooting guard Jahmi’us Ramsey. The Kings did an excellent job with this draft.

Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers had 3 picks in this draft, and they made decent selection in every single one. They had the 21st pick in the first round, and with that they selected Kentucky guard Tyrese Maxey.

Maxey was a decent scorer at Kentucky, but he wasn’t a great shooter. But the general consensus is that he can develop one. He is an excellent scorer already, but if he is able to add a jumper he will become even better and help this 76ers team more.

And like the Kings, the 76ers had two excellent 2nd round round picks. At pick 49, the 76ers selected Arkansas SG Isaiah Joe. Joe is one of the best shooters in the country, and again the 76ers target a great shooter. Joe will reinforce the 76ers’ idea of getting a bunch of shooters to surround Embiid and Simmons. This pick could be very good for the 76ers.

The 76ers also selected Paul Reed with the 58th pick. Reed is a very athletic big guy who averaged a double-double with DePaul this past season. He is a very good defender and can stretch the floor as well. The 76ers aren’t crazy deep at center after Joel Embiid and this pick will help them there greatly.

San Antonio Spurs

After missing the playoffs for the first time in 22 years, the Spurs needed some new pieces and they got them in this draft. At pick 11 they got forward Devin Vassell.

Vassell is one of the best 3&D guys in this draft. He was an excellent shooter and has great length to play on the defensive end. Vassell is great off the ball and doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be successful. Vassell helps the Spurs out at forward and he is going to be a solid scoring option as well.

At pick 41 they selected Duke PG Tre Jones. Yes the Spurs already have a plethora of guards, but Jones is going to be good. He is solid on offense although his jumpshot could use some fine-tuning. He is a great passer and team player and will fit right in with that San Antonio is trying to do.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks had 3 picks in this draft, and they did a solid job on all 3 of them. With the 18th pick in the first round, they took athletic guard Josh Green.

Green’s specialty is athleticism, but he could be developed into a good shooter. Green has a lot of upside and if he pans out well he could fit nicely along Luka Doncic. This pick could be boom or bust for the Mavs.

With the first pick in the 2nd round, they took Stanford guard Tyrell Terry. Terry works on and off the ball and is a great shooter. He can back-up Luka Doncic or work alongside him which gives the Mavs a lot of versatility. The Mavs seem to be going after play-makers who can do their own thing instead of just watch Luka, and Terry’s skills compliment Luka a lot.

And with the 36th pick in the draft, the Mavs took Colorado forward Tyler Bey. Bey is an explosive big guy who can play the 3 or the 4. His biggest strength is rebounding and he gives the Mavs some much needed muscle and energy down low. Bey will play more to start the season with Porzingis out, so we’ll get to see what the young guy can do.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics had 3 picks in this draft as well, with 2 of them being in the first round. With the 14 pick, they took sharp-shooter Aaron Nesmith.

Nesmith was the best shooter in this class, as he shot above 50% from 3 at Vanderbilt on over 5 attempts per game. Nesmith is an absolute sniper and he will help this Celtics team immediately off the bench with a scoring boost.

Boston selected Payton Pritchard with the 26th overall pick. Pritchard is a little small, but he did average over 20 points during his final season at Oregon. He is great at getting downhill and has very deep range. He is not afraid to take big shots or make them. Pritchard will be another solid addition for this C’s bench.

And with the 47th pick in the draft, the Celtics took Israeli PG Yam Madar. Madar is best when he is attacking downhill. But this pickup is more for the future as Madar is only 19. They will just develop him until they feel like he is ready. This is a very low-risk, high-reward situation for Boston.
