The Celtics have some very big problems on this team, those being size and depth. But the Celtics can very easily fix these problems. Gordon Hayward has a near $32,000,000 player option, which he will likely accept. This is a lot of money, but this can be good for Boston. Myles Turner from Indiana is a name you could go after. Turner is making $18,000,000 so the Pacers might have to add Jeremy Lamb or Doug McDermott to make the salaries work. The Celtics might also be able to get some picks from Indiana depending on how much they value Hayward.

I don’t think that Boston should keep Hayward when he accepts his player option. They need to let it be 3 scorers instead of 4 and let Tatum and Brown really grow. With Hayward it’s a bit awkward for both sides. So I think they should trade Hayward before the season starts. Myles Tyner is an option, and if Serge Ibaka is available, the Celtics should go after him as well.

The Celtics also have Enes Kanter and Brad Wanamaker as free agents. Kanter is a solid option off the bench, although his defense is poor. But he played very well against the Heat. The Celtics should keep Kanter as he isn’t making much money and gives you some depth down low. Brad Wanamaker is a solid play-maker off the bench and he is another key piece off the bench.

If the Celtics don’t trade Hayward, they need some more bench depth at the very least. Patrick Peterson, Juan Hernangomez, Wesley Matthews, Jeff Green, and Aron Baynes are all valid options.

So the Celtics don’t have too many guys they need to resign. I would get back Kanter and Wanamaker. I would take back Hayward and then trade him for Myles Turner or Serge Ibaka. Maybe even some more draft capitol. This will make it easier for Tatum and Brown to grow along with Walker. It will allow Tatum to become the clear #1 on the team.

So the Celtics lineup next season might look like
Kemba Walker
Jaylen Brown
Jayson Tatum
Turner/Ibaka/Patterson (Trade/Free Agents)
Theis

Bench: Kanter, Williams, Wanamaker, Langford, Tacko Fall.

Along with that, they have 3 first round picks, selecting at 14, 26, and 30. There aren’t too many big guys in this draft, so they might go for some bench depth, defense, or shooting with these picks.

So the Celtics have lots of options to go this offseason, but for them is to get rid of an All-Star and let Tatum be your #1 option. Add some big guys or some bench depth. They have 3 first round picks to either trade or select a player. So the Celtics have a very bright future, and they just need to play their cards right to be back in contention for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
