What Happened To The Bucks? Giannis Goes Down With Injury! 6.29.21

It’s another day of NBA playoff basketball and we have Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Hawks and Bucks.

(3) Milwaukee Bucks vs (5) Atlanta Hawks

Milwaukee Bucks (2-2)

That was one of the worst games I have seen in a while. With Trae Young, the Bucks were still the better team and should have won this game. Without him? This should have been a blowout. There was no world where the Bucks should have lost this game, yet here we are. The Bucks came out with no injury and a Giannis scary knee injury in the 3rd deflated any comeback attempts.

That Bucks first half was awful. They came out with no energy on either end. The Hawks were scoring just fine without Trae Young, scoring 51 points in the first half. The Bucks shot 33% from the field in the first half for just 38 points. They were outscored in the paint and the Hawks killed them in transition and off of turnovers. Giannis/Jrue/Khris shot a combined 8/24 from the field in the first half and the Bucks best offense came from PJ Tucker.

Then the Bucks got going a bit and then we had the Giannis thing. I hate injuries. I don’t know why the NBA has their conference finals game every day. Give these guys a couple of days of occasionally. I’m ok with one day of not having basketball, it’s not the end of the world. Life moves on. Giannis has a hyperextended knee, which is an injury that can take multiple weeks to heal. According to google, it’s good to limit activities while recovering to avoid further swelling and straining of the knee, so I’m guessing Giannis is done for this series? I’m no doctor, but it sounds like he’s done for this series, maybe the entire playoffs.

This was the Bucks chance. Even if Giannis got hurt, going up 3-1 is a hard burden for any team to come back from, especially this Hawks team missed Young and Hunter. Now maybe Giannis is done and Trae Young could come back soon. The series is tied and now the Bucks are in danger of losing this series which was handed to them on a silver platter. Way to take advantage of things, Milwaukee.

Atlanta Hawks (1-2)

You know what? Not going to question anything. The Hawks came out with more energy and built a big lead. Lou Williams was great in that first half the other Hawks hit timely shots. They built a great wall against Giannis who was 3/7 in the first half, the Bucks big 3 only shot 33% from the field in that first half. The Bucks trimmed the lead in the 3rd quarter but then the Bucks got the injury bug. Giannis went down and the Hawks built the lead up to 25 points.

The Hawks needed this game badly and now they give Trae Young a chance to rest up and comeback for Game 5 with the series tied. Now, it Giannis and Young are out, who has the better supporting cast?

The Bucks have Jrue and Middleton, who would be the best players in the series if both All-Stars were out. But after this game, the Hawks looked pretty good. Their bench outscored the Bucks bench 35-24. Gallinari and Okungwu looked really good and if Collins, Huerter, Williams, and Bogdanovic give you some offense, that’s enough. The Bucks looked shell shocked when Giannis went down and they’ll likely look better in Game 5 if Giannis isn’t there, but it’s a tossup really. So the Hawks are now in a best-of-3 series. Whoever wins 2 games first gets their tickets punched to the Finals. Maybe the Hawks have a chance.
