Who Is The Greatest Shooter Of All Time?

Today, I am naming the greatest shooter in NBA History.

Throughout NBA history there have been some great shooters. As time went on, the great shooters have evolved into what they are now. Today I will be deciding on is was the greatest shooter in NBA History. Here are the candidates:
Reggie Miller
Larry Bird
Stephen Curry

Ray Allen
Klay Thompson

And, in my opinion, the greatest shooter is… Stephen Curry. Now, let’s see why Stephen Curry is the greatest shooter of all time.

Range

In terms of range, you don’t get better than Steph Curry. Before Curry, people who were good shooters were toeing the lines. Sure they were great, but they weren’t shooting from very deep. I think that the 2014-15 season was when we first realized that Curry’s method of deep 3’s might actually work. I mean, we were seeing him shoot from places nobody thought was possible. And from that season on, we were just watching something that we had never seen before. The 2015-16 year was great for Curry, and it was just more of the same, he was changing the game.

I think that the current NBA playstyle would not be what it is without Curry. You see teams like the Rockets shooting 35+ 3’s in a game consistently, you thank Curry for that.

Not only was Curry good at shooting from deep, he forever revolutionized the game like something we have never seen before.

Stroke/Mechanics

In terms of stroke and mechanic, Curry’s jumper is as good as it gets. I would say that Ray Allen has the smoothest/best-looking jump shot that I’ve seen, but Curry is right behind him. He has a very quick release that allowed him to shoot with defenders in close vicinity. He is able to shoot from deep and makes very tough shots off the dribble and coming off of screens

Curry had one of the purest shots that we have seen, and his shot will never be seen again in terms of quickness and pureness.

Makes/Efficiency

Over the years, Steph has been racking up the numbers from beyond the ark. Here are Curry’s number of makes and percentage from each of his years in the league.
2009-10: 166 3-PT Makes – 43.7%
2010-11: 151 3-PT Makes – 44.2%
2011-12: 55 3-PT Makes – 45.5%
2012-13: 272 3-PT Makes – 45.3%
2013-14: 261 3-PT Makes – 42.4%
2014-15: 286 3-PT Makes – 44.3%
2015-16: 402 3-PT Makes – 45.4%
2016-17: 324 3-PT Makes – 41.1%
2017-18: 212 3-PT Makes – 42.3%
2018-19: 354 3-PT Makes – 43.7%
2019-20: 12 3-PT Makes – 24.5%
*Bold Indicates Led The League

Other than the 2019-20 season and the 2011-12 season, in which Curry was injured for almost the whole season, he has made over 150 3’s and shot over 40% from 3. He led the league in 3-PT makes from 2012 to 2016.

Throughout his career, Curry has made 2,495 3-pointers. This ranks him 3rd behind Reggie Miller and Ray Allen. Curry has only played 699 games and he is 3rd all-time. Reggie Miller played 1389 games and is 2nd. Ray Allen played 1300 games and is first. So, the top 2 players have played 1300 games. Curry had played just under 700.

He has also shot 43.5% from 3, which is absurd saying that he has shot 5,739 3’s.

In the playoffs, Curry has played in 110 games. He has made 470 3’s while shooting 40.1% from 3. Curry leads the NBA all-time in 3-pointers made in the playoffs. Ray Allen played in 121 games and made 385 3’s. Allen is 2nd, and Curry is 85 3’s ahead of Allen, and Curry has played in less games.

So, Curry is top-3 all time, and #1 in the playoffs in terms of shooting 3’s. But he is much more efficient than everybody else on the list. He is shooting the most 3’s in the league almost every single year. He has forever changed the game with his ability to shoot the 3-pointer. Without him, the meta in the NBA would be a lot different.
