The Eastern Conference Finals have been set, and I’m giving my thoughts on the series.

The Eastern Conference Finals have been set. It will be between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics. Here are my thoughts on the upcoming series.

Miami Heat

I think people are overreacting to Miami’s recent success. I mean, they have been playing very well, don’t get that twisted. But they were the perfect storm against the Bucks. They had the perfect defender against Giannis is Bam Adebayo, and their other guys followed the game-plan. But the Heat ran into a team with a terrible coach and not many other shot-creators. Now they face a great Boston team with lots of shot-creators.

And with Gordon Hayward likely to play in the series, the Heat are in even more trouble. The Heat don’t have many defenders for all the Heat scorers. The Heat have been starting Dragic, Robinson, Butler, Crowder, and Adebayo in the playoffs. This lineup could face problems against the Celtics.

Duncan Robinson might not even start because he is a defensive weakness. Goran Dragic will have to guard Kemba Walker, which is a mis-match. Jimmy Butler and Jae Crowder will have to guard Brown and Tatum, which is a handful. Adebayo will have to guard Theis.

So expect a different lineup from Miami because Robinson is not a good defender. And with the Celtics having much better scorers, the Heat’s defense will not be as good all series long. And if the Heat figure out Boston, Brad Stevens will adjust because he is a better coach.

On offense, the Heat have some weapons and some shooters. But the Celtics protect the 3 as good as anybody. They don’t allow many 3’s and their opponents don’t shoot good from 3. So the Heat will have to find some better ways to score. Because the Celtics have great perimeter defense, but their interior is weak. While Daniel Theis is a solid rim-protector, the Heat can attack inside.

The Heat will have to play very well to win this series as they are playing a much better and tougher team in Boston.

Boston Celtics

After a tough series with the Toronto Raptors, the Celtics come out the other side with a chance to go to the Finals. And the Celtics will be getting better against the Heat. Boston will be getting Gordon Hayward back, which should help on the offensive end.

The Celtics will give the Heat a tough time on offense as they have Tatum, Brown, Hayward, and Walker. Marcus Smart has been hitting his 3’s and Daniel Theis has been great down low. The Celtics will be tough to guard, and they will give the Heat problems with their matchups. Gordon Hayward will likely come off the bench and help the Celtics weak bench.

Defensively, the Celtics are all-around great. Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum are all great perimeter defenders and the Celtics defend the 3 great. So they will be running the Heat off the 3 and force other shots. Daniel Theis is a solid rim-protector, but the Heat will have an advantage down low.

But Boston will be problematic for the Heat, and this will be a very close, tough series.

My Verdict: I have the Celtics winning this series in 6 games, 4-2. Their offense will give the Heat problems with all of their weapons. Their coach can make changes and at they have clutch-closers. On defense, Boston takes away the Heat’s biggest strength, 3’s. The Celtics also had great perimeter defense and their only weakness is down low. It wouldn’t surprise me if this series went any way, but I have the Celtics winning in 6.
