Who Won and Lost Free Agency?
With Free Agency all but over, we now know which teams got better and are now contending, and which teams made some questionable moves during this off-season.
Which off season move did you like the most? Comment below.
For me personally, it’s between the Pelicans whole off-season and the Clippers getting Kawhi and Paul George. But, in the end, I will have to go with the Clippers. They had a really good team last year with rookie Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Patrick Beverley, Danilo Gallinari and Tobias Harris for half of the season. They also had bench stars in Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell. They challenged the Warriors to 6 games in the 1st round before losing. This off-season, they got Kawhi Leonard and gave up Gilgeous-Alexander, Gallinari and a boat-load of picks to get Paul George. Now the Clippers will have Patrick Beverley, Landry Shamet, Leonard, George and Jamychal Green for the starting 5 (my prediction), along with Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell and Ivica Zubac off the bench. The Clippers are in a great spot and have the best chance to win the Finals this season. I know some people have been saying that the LA Lakers are better, but you have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George along with a great supporting cast. The Clippers are the way better team in LA.
What’s the worst offseason one team had? Comment below.
There were lots of bad ones, and none by really good teams. But I will have to choose the team that hoped for too much. The Knicks had big dreams of paradise. They were hyping getting the #1 pick in the NBA Draft and getting Zion Williamson. They were also hyping up getting Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. So they were basically saying that they would get 2 of the best players in the league right now and getting a future star in Zion. Ah, the stupidity of it all. The Knicks ended up getting the 3rd pick and took RJ Barrett. Zion went #1 to the Pelicans. That’s not too bad of an upgrade, but the Knicks were still presenting the idea that they would get Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving during this free agency. During the 1st day of Free Agency, KD and Kyrie both signed with the Brooklyn Nets. That’s right across the East River. That must have hurt. With the money they had, they signed Julius Randle, Marcus Morris, Bobby Portis, Wayne Ellington and Taj Gibson, among others. They got lots of big guys, like Randle, Gibson and Portis. They already have some young big guys like Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson. This is something the Knicks have been criticized for doing. They got lots of forwards who are pretty and good and will get minutes because they have already developed their games. But Knox and Robinson are still developing, it will be more difficult for them to develop and get better. Another that should be learned from the Knicks. They tried to tank games to get the #1 pick and that did not work. Teams should not try to tank just to get the #1 pick. They should try their best to win games, develop younger players, and when the season ends, then you see where you stack up in the NBA Draft. If you have a chance at the #1 pick, that’s great. Hopefully the team makes a good choice and that player helps them in future. What the Knicks did was the opposite. They were gunning for Zion and other stars coming to them way too early, and many people bought into it. But now that they have nobody that were telling people they were getting, it’s going to be a long few years for Knicks fans.
What was the most surprising move this summer? Comment below.
Well, there were some surprises like Al Horford going to the 76ers, D’Angelo Russell going to the Warriors and more, but the most surprising move for me was the whole 76ers ordeal. They had to decide to keep Tobias Harris to Jimmy Butler. They decided to keep Harris signed him to a huge deal. I liked that. Butler has been a problem every team he has been on and Harris has to prove himself with this new deal. They managed to trade Butler, who they no longer wanted, to the Miami Heat for Josh Richardson. Richardson was coming off the best season of his career, averaging 16.6 points, 4.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals. Richardson will continue to grow for the 76ers. The 76ers lineup will look something like this, Ben Simmons, Josh Richardson, Tobias Harris, Al Horford and Joel Embiid (the thing I like about getting Horford is him and Embiid are interchangeable from PF and C.) The 76ers have to take advantage of the East being wide open and them being at the top at a talent stand-point. They have to at least make it to the Eastern Conference Finals for this to be considered a good year.
Who will win the NBA Championship this season? Comment below.
Well, I’ll list the teams who have the best shots: the LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets. There are a few teams like the Utah Jazz, Portland Trail Blazers and the Toronto Raptors who will need to have exceptional seasons to win the title, but it is not out of the question. But, the team that I think will have the best chance this season will be the Los Angeles…. Clippers. They have the 2 best 2-way players in the league with Leonard and George. They have great role guys like Patrick Beverley and Landry Shamet. They have probably the best bench in the league with guys like Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell, Mo Harkless, Rodney Mcgruder, and Ivica Zubac. The Clippers will be a very good team this year and if Paul George can stay healthy and Kawhi leads them during the playoffs, they have the perfect recipe for a title.
Bonus Question: Who is the best player in the league? Comment Below
Easy, Kawhi. He showed us during this years playoffs that he is the best player. He has the great offensive game, jumper, layups and strength along with he big hand, long arms and IQ on the defensive side. Giannis would have a chance to be the #1 player in the league if he developed the jump shot. When KD was healthy during this year’s playoffs, he was dominant. If he was still healthy, he would definitely be in the top 3 with the best player in the league considerations. Lebron is the best of our era, but after this season with the Lakers, he definitely slipped a bit. James Harden is a 1-way player. He’s the best 1 on 1 player in the league, but he has no defense. To be the best player in the league, you need to be a 2-way player.
